Haneman wint! Toch opvallend makkelijk. Dagje rust en dan hopelijk revanche nemen op Stepanek.
Het gaat wel weer voorspoedig: 4 man door naar de tweede ronde, geen een exit.

Ik heb ze ook nog allemaal. 4 man op de baan geweest en allemaal gewonnen: Hanescu, Melzer, Calleri en Chela.
En de rest gaat ook wel winnen (denk ik en hoop ik).

Het is twijfelachtig of Nadal gaat spelen of niet. Paar quotes:

World number two Rafael Nadal could join the list of high-profile withdrawals from the Madrid Masters Series if the tendinitis in his knees does not improve before his opening match on Wednesday. Coach Toni Nadal said that a decision would be taken after consultation with the player's doctor.
The 19-year-old top seed withdrew from the ATP event in Vienna last week. Although he said he was determined to play Madrid tournament the pain in his knees could cause him to drop out again.
"I've been training for a couple of days and the knee is still hurting," said Nadal. "I've had a scan done and it shows that I've got acute tendinitis."
En hij heeft zich voor de zekerheid alvast wel teruggetrokken uit het dubbeltoernooi.

Het is wel een afweging geweest om hem niet te nemen, maar het zal allemaal wel meevallen. Hij hoeft morgen pas te spelen en tegen Hanescu kan ie ook wel op halve kracht winnen.
Het zou wel jammer zijn als ie daadwerkelijk niet mee zou doen, want dan geef ik Robredo een goede kans om daar door te gaan. En die heb ik om 15:59 uur gewisseld voor Gonzalez.

Nou, de toernooisite van Madrid is nog niet wakker.
Daarop zijn de heren Karlovic en Rusedski nog niet begonnen.
Volgens livescore.com is het 3-3 in set 1.
De stand bij Monfils - C. Rochus in set 1 is 2-3 in het voordeel van de Belg.

Ik ga er vanuit dat Rochus en Greg dit winnen. Rochus was me toch net iets te duur met een volgende ronde tegen ToJo en Greg zeker met een volgende ronde tegen Andy (al denk ik wel dat ie een kans heeft).

Madrid (dpa) - A straight-sets loss to an Argentine qualifier could drive a nail into the coffin of Albert Costa's career after the worst possible start Monday at the 2.1-million-euros Madrid Masters.
South American Agustin Calleri put the boot into the 2002 French Open champion with a 6-0, 7-5 decision. The latest dis-heartening result has left the 30-year-old Costa considering retirement after a dozen years in the sport.
He will take a month off after dropping to 13-17 during a sad season where he has played mainly -and poorly- on the clay where he made his name.
"It's very difficult to be playing at the top level for so long. I'm 30 and I've been a professional for 12 years," said the Spaniard, ranked 102. "I'll take a month off and then see if I recover the strength and motivation to carry on. If not, it won't be worth it."
Costa last won a match two months ago. He stood 1-1 against Calleri coming in, but had little to offer in the 74-minute disappointment indoors in the capital. Costa dropped to 2-3 in Madrid, where he became the only man to lose to Briton Tim Henman here.
"It's possible that that was my last game," Costa said after going out to Calleri. "But I'm not completely sure." The veteran said that the grind of training is wearing him down and he wonders if the cost of staying on court is really worth it.
"It's an effort. I have a family and my motivation is weaker. I have a knee which hurts and I had an operation. You play week after week and become weaker and unsure."
