NEC onder curatele door miljoenenschuld

NEC heeft een miljoenenschuld en is door de KNVB onder curatele gesteld. De Nijmeegse club kwam onder druk van een onderzoek van Voetbal International met het nieuws naar buiten.
VI ontdekte dat NEC voor miljoenen in de min staat. De club bouwde die schuld op tijdens de periode 2003-2005, met name door het aantrekken van (te) dure spelers als Edgar Barreto (foto) en Andrzej Niedzielan. NEC bracht de gemeente Nijmegen en de sponsors nooit op de hoogte van de negatieve financiÃÂ«le situatie.

'De gehoopte verkopen kwamen niet. Dat is eigenlijk het verhaal', vertelde voormalig voorzitter Hans van Delft. 'Als het aan mijnheer Boekhoorn (voormalig geldschieter, red.) had gelegen, zaten we nu met een schuld van twintig miljoen of meer.'

Door NEC in te delen in categorie I houdt de KNVB de vinger aan de pols. De club dient periodiek verantwoording af te leggen aan de voetbalbond over de financiÃÂ«le situatie.
